Usage statistics

NexPanel sends a few anonymous numbers to nexpanel.app so the project knows how many panels are installed, which versions and systems to support, and where installs fail. You can turn this off at any time.

What is sent

From the installer, three short reports: when an install starts, when it finishes, and when it fails.

Field Example
Install ID a random ID made for this server (/etc/nexpanel/install-id)
Mode aio, controller or node
System almalinux 9.6, x86_64
Versions controller, agent and LVE manager versions being installed
Web server nginx
Duration seconds since the installer started
On failure the installer step (for example controller) and the last error line

From the controller, one report a day:

Field Example
Install ID and mode the same random ID, aio or controller
System and versions the controller's OS, the NexPanel versions in use
Counts number of nodes (and how many are online), hosting accounts and domains
Fleet how many nodes run each agent version, LVE version, OS (almalinux 9) and web server

To see exactly what your panel sends, open Administration › Settings › Usage statistics › Show exactly what is sent, or run:

cd /opt/nexpanel-controller && sudo -u nexpanel php artisan nexpanel:telemetry --show

What is never sent

Hostnames, IP addresses, domain names, usernames, email addresses, passwords, file names or any customer data. Error lines are cleaned before they are sent: addresses, emails and links are replaced with placeholders.

The receiving server uses the connection's IP address only to look up the country (with the free DB-IP database) and does not store the address. Reports are kept for 13 months.

Turn it off

  • When installing: add --no-telemetry, or run the installer with NEXPANEL_TELEMETRY=0. Nothing is sent, and the panel's daily report is off too (the installer writes /etc/nexpanel/telemetry-disabled).
  • On a running panel: uncheck Send anonymous usage statistics in Administration › Settings.
  • For every panel you deploy: set NEXPANEL_TELEMETRY=false in the controller's .env.
